Years ago, when renowned winemaker Bob Blue was just starting out , it was almost unheard of to get French oak wine barrels – and American oak barrels were for whiskey, not wine. Bob and his team still needed barrels to age their red wines, so they purchased new and used bourbon barrels. Today, American and French oak wine barrels are commonplace, so the inspiration for 1000 Stories is a nod to the way things were. Top quality lots of prime California Zinfandel are blended and then batch finished in old Bourbon barrels for extra complexity. The result is 1000 stories now the best-selling bourbon finished Zinfandel in the world. 1000 Stories was voted 'Top Wine Launch' by The Grocer magazine in December 2018.
These wines are widely available in UK retail
Bob Blue is the legendary winemaker behind 1000 Stories. The wine is made – like craft spirits and beer – in small lots. The wine begins its aging process in traditional French and American oak wine barrels before transitioning lots to the bourbon barrels. This small-lot approach lends nuance and enhances Zinfandel’s signature red fruit and spice notes
